I'm looking for small (the smaller the better) battery-powered
leak detectors, that can either send a signal wirelessly to a
central unit if water is detected, or that can sound an audible
signal themselves. I'm not bothered with integrating it into
anything existing, so I'm flexible with the setup, except there
must be as little wiring as possible. There's some X10 stuff
available but either sensors have to be wired together or it'll
work out somewhat expensive with an SC2800 and each detector
at £80/piece.
Something like these would definitely do the job:

But if small sensors like this could talk to a central alarm unit
wirelessly that would be great. Any experiences with this would
be greatly appreciated.
