The most important rule is to find one that understands the difference
between 240VAC and 110VAC. I just got a call from a customer who
informs me that the "cheap" electrician they hired to do some work on
rewiring a new boiler wound up putting 240 VAC onto several lightng
circuits and the one for the building's fire alarm system. That
"carefully packaged blue smoke" was very quickly released. They're now
on "fire watch" until Monday. While this will give them opportunity to
replace a whole bunch of light bulbs with CFL's in the hallways, I
happened to mention that a number of their emergency light packs and
exits are also on lighting circuits. Now I'm waiting to hear back on
how many we're going to have to replace... Sigh!!!
