Hello,

I recently had a spyware infection and had help cleaning my pc from a well
known ASAP forum. During the cleanup of my pc some files, cookies and
processes were removed! Unfortunately now, while my computer is clean and
works much faster, i am having problems opening pictures with windows
picture and fax viewer. I double click on pictures in My Pictures folder
and nothing happens and the thumbnails have been replaced with generic jpeg
icons. Let me also say that i recently removed adobe photo album starter
edition 3 and i wish to use windows picture and fax viewer as my default
application for opening all photos! How can i do this? I still have
backups of hijackthis but i dont know which process to reapply if any and if
this is the problem. Is it better to run the windows error checking utility
or perhaps try a windows repair from the cd?

Many thanks,

Nick Magos

Hi Nick,
Assuming that you've updated your version of Windows within the last
week or so, here are a couple of things to do.

1. Search for shimgvw.dll in your Windows and subfolders. If you find
it then do step 2. If not, reply back, and we'll tell you how to get it
again.

2. Open a run box, (Start---> Run...) and paste this in (without the
quotes) "regsvr32 %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll" then click OK. It
should pop up a message saying that the file was registered. Then, try
looking at a picture in My Computer. If it works, then you've fixed the
issue. If not, we'll have to dig some more.

HTH.
