Dear Community,
My laptop is infected with the Vundo.gen!Y virus. Initially there were two
files containing this virus: Win32/Vund.D and Vundo.gen!Y. The antivirus
software McAffee and MS OneCare were not able to remove them both, only the
first one. I performed some research and discovered how to remove the Vundo
virus manually.

The OneCare safety scanner's report listed the following:

Virus and spyware scan: 1 item detected, 1 issue found
Registry cleaner scan: 529 invalid items found
Disk cleanup scan: 11.2 MB of temporary files found
Disk fragmentation scan: 25% fragmented
Open ports scan: 0ports open

As you can see, it was informative, but not helpful in removing the virus
(It listed it as "Unable to clean", and cleaning up my registry. How do I go
about cleaning up my registry and remove also the Vundo virus?

It is listed as: Trojan:Win:32/Vundo.gen!Y

Please help! Thank you and have a Great and Wonderful New Year!

Sincerely,
John Monek

At this point you should get guided help at one of the specialty forums
below OR back up your data and do a clean install of Windows. It is your
choice. If you are unsure how to back up your data or how to do a clean
install, you can take your machine to a local computer professional. I
don't recommend using BigComputerStore/GeekSquad types of places.

Vundo is NOT a virus, it is a Trojan.

Start by using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam/program/mbam-setup.exe

Please do NOT Multi-Post.
Please learn to Cross-Post to pertinent, On Topic, News Groups instead.

Your other post was already replied to PRIOR to you making this post !

In addition to Malke's suggestion to seek guided help and David's
Malwarebytes'
Anti-Malware suggestion, you could consider making use of
'Microsoft's No Charge
Security Support'
(http://www.microsoft.com/protect/support/default.mspx) via
phone, chat,
or email. You are eligible for such free support by virtue of
having
used the OneCare Live Safety Scanner.
