Good post, Milo! :)

Are you able to explain why most of the 'helpers' categorically state that
Hijackthis logs should not be posted here in the Microsoft groups?

Similarly, GMER logs too I suspect (not sure about that!)

That I cant answer for you, but its possible that someone or anyone may try
to read the hijackthis log with not much of experience from it and cause
further damage than help with the customers/those in need, maybe
categorizing who can evaluate it in this community site can make a
difference.

I can think of several reasons.
1. This is a 'non-binary' newsgroup - as such, posting attachments of any
kind is frowned upon.
2. Newsgroups are a broadcast medium - as such, they function best when
postings seek to ask and answer questions that affect more than a single
individual at a time. Otherwise, you cause thousands of readers to read, or
ignore, your posts, for the benefit of the one individual whose machine is
infected. [Obviously, once you find the infection, sharing information here
on how to detect it, and how to remove it, are very much appreciated]
3. It makes it very difficult to use Google Groups search to find useful
information if all you get back are HijackThis logs.

Doubtless there are other reasons from other posters.

Alun.

Many websites act as fronts to Usenet, some are duplicates of Usenet
groups. Search engines DO archive those sites and do record info from HJ
Logs posted to Usenet.

You can see this by typing in headers from HJ Logs and searching -
thousands of hits.

Yes.

True. The problem is that every Tom, Dick and Harry will respond...

True.

Presumptions!

Fora specialized in analysing HJT logs are unquestionably a safer bet
receiving advice!

Now that is funny! PCBUTTS1 is talking about lies :-)

It's more like a wrong construction on words.

NG's aren't moderated; anybody can post here claiming to be an expert,
progam author/developer or whatever!
