This may not be a security problem, but I am sure it was something I did in
the name of security....

Since we were going on vacation and likely to use various hot sites, I
thought I should make my shared folders un-readable from outside.... and I
thought that was what I did, but now, I cannot add or change or modify any
non-file things in shared folders (I can't add a folder, or rename, or
anything).

What did I do and how do I undo it....

BTW, I tried to do a reversion back to a previous point but I get a message
that I can't do that either.

thanks

You are not giving much specifics to work with !!!
"I did something to make folders not work. They don't,
too well. What did I do?"
You deleted them? You removed sharing? You removed
all permissions from them? At share level? At NTFS
level? You removed some permissions from them? You
added a deny in their permissions?
You are going to have to tell us, at least something . . .

The problem is -- I don't know exactly what I did....

I thought I right clicked the Shared Folders icon and turned off the sharing
permissions. Then, after we got back from our trip, I went in and tried to
reverse that.... I tried dragging the Shared Folders to another directory,
and then changing permissions, but that didn't do any thing. I copied the
Shared Folder and put it in another directory, but that copy still gives me
an acess denied message when I try to do anything in it... I obviously did
something in one of those steps... but can't for the life of me figure out
what I did wrong, or right...

sorry for the lack of info.... I appreciate the help

Are you using an account that doesn't have administrator priveleges? If you
have removed all sharing permissions then a user with Admin status may be
able to restore them.

How? And what did you experience? At least I am assuming
your attempt "to reverse that . . . " failed and then you tried the
things mentioned next.

What is your operating system and what is the filesystem path
of what you wanted shared?
