When I restart my computer first a systemmessage box shows up with some
strange symbols writen, like !#!! or similar, the only thing I can do is
press ok. After this I get to the login. I log in then when the desktop shows
up all files have lost all their associations, I can't start any programs or
files. When I try to click anything it just sais the file doesn't have any
associations with a program please choose a program from the list...
Is this a virus and in that case what is it called and how do I remove it?
thnx in advance

What does the antivirus you have installed show? Don't have one? Then
start by scanning with either Sysclean or David Lipman's Multi-AV.
Follow instructions here:

I am not sure if it is a virus but can be sothing else connected to Windows
,probably your file assosiation is corrupted. It is easily fixed.

Use System Restore in Windows XP or Me
Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore

Restore you computer to a state 3 days before the problem started.

You can scan your computer for all kind of security threats using Panda's
free ActiveScan
http://www.activescan.com
After the scan is finished, the scanner allows you to save the report so if
something is found , post the report here.Cookies are not threats.
