When my computer automatically turns itself off - like when I have been away
for a while or if I close the lid - it indicates that the "administrator" has
to use a password to continue. I put in the administrator's password and it
does not recognize it. I am 99% sure of the password. How do I find out
what the password is so I can either change it or correct it?

Just change the password to something you will remember. Log into an
account with administrative privileges and do:

Start>Run>control userpasswords2 [enter]

You will see where you can change the Administrator's password there.
