Does anyone know what this file is?
When I extract Windows-kb890830-v1.10-ENU.exe I see two files: mrt.exe and
mrtstub.exe. I find a lot of documentation on what mrt.exe is but nothing on
mrtstub.exe.
I used Windows-kb890830-v1.10-ENU.exe /x to extract mrt.exe and mrtstub.exe.

Short answer: Leave everything as it is now and download/run the MSRT
manually via http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx.
(I strongly recommend running it offline and with your anti-virus
application temporarily disabled.)

mrtstub is part of the Malicious Software Removal Tool. It is responsible
for copying mrt.exe to the correct location and launching it.

Also, when the tool is installed via Windows Update, mrtstub.exe is
responsible for patching the previous version of mrt.exe (if any) on your
computer. This uses a much smaller "delta" binary file instead of requiring
that you download the full mrt.exe. This reduces the download size and
consumes less bandwidth.

Dear MS,

This webpage claims to be one of your partners:
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/mrtstub/

This link comes top in search results for "mrtstub.exe"

It claims that "mrtstub.exe" is unspecified malware and should be deleted!

Have a word with them please!

Why hasn't an MVP or MS security rep responded to this post? There are
several sites which name this service as malware for removal. This service
also has shown itself to freeze system resources. Bad code? Update needed?

Please respond.
