Some "spyware company took over my desktop with their promotional offer. I
tried "Restore System", reset desktop "screen", found the file webhound or
hphound, hound hp or something like that. All of this and I still have a flat
white screen with my desktop icons. What gives?....

Crewman!
I've got the same problem. I ran all of the spyware and virus stuff, but
everytime I boot the system it goes to a white screen with my icons on it.
Cannot reset it. Also as the system remains on, things like paint and
calculator open on their own.
I'm stumped....what do I do?

Download at least 2 free spyware scanners , make sure it's fully up to date.
Then boot the computer in safe mode run scans using both programs (1 at
at time).
I recommend Spybot and Adaware (both available from
http://www.safercomputing.com ) .
Run a virus scan also while in safe mode.
