I downloaded virus protection software "AntiVir" because my NAV (Norton) did
not catch some Trojans and Backdoors (I have current definitions). The
"AntiVir" detects all any idea why?

Antivirus programs detect Viruses. Trojans and Backdoors are not Viruses.
Many "offbrand" antivirus programs return false positives.

You were better off with the Norton AV. It was doing it's job (assuming you
were keeping it updated).

In order to deal with malware, adware, etc you need to use other tools.

Suggest you use Google and learn the difference between viruses, worms,
trojans etc.

Please note that I did not use the word "virii" at any time in the body of
text above.
I am proud to speak English and would not butcher it by using words that do
not exist>

Symantec freely admits that the Personal and Small Business editions of NAV
don't support identifying and removing much of the hijackware (Trojan-like
hijackers) that plagues many users.
