Can anyone tell me of a way to automatically start a VPN client when
wireless is detected? I do not want VPN to start when the connection is
wired.

Need more information. What OS, VPN client, Wireless support, system, etc.?

I have used the network profile management software on various laptops,
i.e. my Toshiba has something called ConfigFree, and most provide the
ability to launch an application when a certain configuration profile is
activated.

If your using native XP to configure the wireless... I don't know but
the VPN client may have support to hook the interface.

Good luck,

Some companies disable Windows wireless zero-config service and use a
wrapper like iPass Connect to launch Internet connection and VPN thereafter.
All such solutions have questionable reliability and purpose - in my
opinion, you can leave the decision to connect back to the corporate network
to the users.

Nothing native in Windows.

According to the Cisco VPN Client Administrator's Guide you can setup an
AutoInitiation that will evaluate whether to connect based on the
network settings. It was designed for wireless network connections.
