I'm a tech working on a problem that appears to involve the WindowsXP
firewall.
I have a laptop with XP SP 2 on it. The user has favorites saved with HTTPS
addresses. One of these is a favorite so that he can look at the performance
of his stocks on Yahoo Stocks. When he tries to go to this or other secure
sites, he gets the error that that the ".....memory (hex address) could not
be referenced. The memory could not be "read"". After reading many other
forum's posts and seeing that it had nothing to do with hardware I tried
reinstalling his Java to no avail. Finally, after telling the Wndows
Firewall to make IEXPLORE.EXE an exception, I find that it goes to all of the
sites successfully.

I realize this defeats the whole purpose of the firewall, which is why I'm
posting this. How can I turn the firewall back on and allow secured sites to
get through?

Try adding the secured web sites to the Trusted Zone.
