There are only two possibities :

1) You have another software firewall installed /or security product with
firewall protection/ . Goto Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs
and see if you have one . The most popular are Symantec/Norton , McAfee ,
Panda,Kaspersky , Kerio , Outpost , ZoneAlarm ......
If you have that's the reason and if so , no need to worry

2) You have malicious software (viruses/spyware)
You need to clean the infection . Well , I would *never* rely on BETA
product such as Windows Defender because beta softwares are incompleted and
they have bugs in them . Scan and clean with repitable tools . See my
web-page and perform the "Check for and eliminate" instructions

Report back what happened .
Regards! :)

Sparky,

I have the same problem. I followed panda man's advice and ran SpyBot
Search and Destroy. It found something very specific to the problem we
are having. The fix seems to be working

Good luck

That is not normal and could indicate that your computer has been comprised
or is/was infected. It sounds like a script is running that is disabling the
firewall on schedule or by an event. If you can not find and resolve the
problem I would suggest you backup all your data and configuration info,
decrypt any EFS encrypted files, and do a clean install of the operating
system being sure not to connect to the internet until you have some sort of
firewall protection. Read advice at the link below on Protect Your PC. If
you are using cable/DSL this is exactly why I always recommend that an
"internet router" be used to protect your network. Also make sure you are
not using more than one host/software firewall at a time. --- Steve
