I am participating in an acedemic exercise which requires me to harden an
unpatched version of windows XP and 2000 server without the benefit of an
external network connection (i.e. no automatic update).

Does anybody know of a single location from which to download all security
updates (or a cumulative update) since the release of XP sp2/ 2K sp4? It is
important that these machines be fully patched because they will actively
attacked by security profesionals looking for vulnerabilities.

Thanks

yeah, download and run mbsa, Microsoft Baseline Security Analyser. It will
tell you what is missing on all machines on your network. If you do have
access to a temporary connection it will download them for you and you can
install from the folder it puts them in.

Do I assume correctly that *eventually* you'll be connecting to the Internet?

If not, you don't even need 99% of the updates!
