Hi I have WMP 10 & Free Zone alarm. WHen I go to walmart.com to hear samples
of songs, i have been getting this ERROR notice after WMP loads:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network error occurred.
The server might not be available. Verify that you are connected to the
network and that your proxy settings are correct.
I called their walmarts 800 number and we did a few things in WMP. nothing
worked. Then she told me to shut down my firewall. I did and clicked to
listen to the sample, and VIOLA ! it played. So we found the problem. SHe
told me to add Walmart.com & microsoft.com to the trusted part. I did. But,
before I came here for help, i went to ZA asked how to add to the trusted
zone. I did as they suggested and the problem is still there. same error
message.
As soon as I turn off my firewall, all is good. I have listened to music
samples in Yahoo before withour a problem. SO, is the problem with ZA or WMP
that I have to configure? thanks

How about if you use the WinXP SP2 firewall instead of ZA?

I am using Zone Alarm v4.5 and WMP v10. I am able to play the song
samples at walmart.com with no errors.

In Zone Alarm, I have WMP listed as OK to access Internet and Trusted
zones, but not act as a server. I don't have walmart.com listed in my
trusted zones, either in ZA or Internet Explorer.

There are lots of settings in IE (TOOLS/OPTIONS), and I'm not sure if any
of them effect the browsers ability to play streamed content, but this might
be a place to look. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but at least you'll
know that the two programs can co-exist without problems.

I doubt the problem is caused by Zone Alarm, since I have Zone Alarm
Internet Security Center 6 at home and have no problem playing samples from
Walmart.

I even wonder if the problem is caused by a firewall per se, since I'm
behind a corporate firewall here at work and have no trouble playing samples
from Walmart.

Many posters to the Windows Media Player newsgroup complain about not being
able to play samples from Walmart, or even to play music they've correctly
downloaded (and paid for). Therefore, IMHO, I believe the problem lies with
Walmart.
