I have recently reinstalled Windows XP following hardware changes. I am being
prompted to activate the OS, but told that the COA number I have is
incorrect. My computer supplier told me to ignore the prompts to activate, as
these are "errors", as I am simply reinstalling an already-activated product.
Because the Microsoft Anti Spyware site thinks I don't have an activated
Windows XP, I can't install it. The antispyware software is really useful and
I'd like it back!

Any help greatly appreciated.

Activate the OS install.
If it is a legal install it will activate without issues.
All installs other than with major vendor OEM versions (Dell,IBM, etc.)
require activation after installation.
If the COA is seen as invalid then you likely do not have a legal
copy/license.
