If you were  Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
Sometimes I get an strange message while trying to shut down or reboot. The
message says that it is trying to shut down a program that does not appear in
the task manager.

The applications is "Event Viewer or Recieiver". You can view the message at:

I want to know if anyone is watching me on a network or just what it is. Any
info on this matter will be appreciated.

I could not find the message at that link - just a blank webpage. You should
run a full malware scan on your computer anytime you are experiencing
strange behavior. SysInternals has free tools called Process Explorer,
Autoruns, and TCPview that can help track down rouge processes, port usage,
and startup processes. If the error goes away booting into safe mode then it
most likely is a startup service/application. The links below may help get
you started until you can post more specifics. --- Steve

Well, I see your webpage but I don't have an answer for you.

The webpage shows the dialog box you get during shutdown when some
process won't end. There's an "End Now" button in the box. The box is
titled "End Program - XPCOM:EventReceiver"

A search of Google Groups shows this is not an uncommon problem. It
seems to have something to do with Mozilla or Firefox.
