Should I be using more than 1 Adware & Spyware program? I was told to
install at least 3 as they all fix different problems. Today I was told to
only have one as they could be interferring with eachother.

You should use more than one antimalware tool to clean up an infested
computer. You shouldn't have more than one resident (running in the
background). For instance, we normally install Ad-aware, Spybot Search
& Destroy, and SpywareBlaster on Windows machines. All of those
programs are free and I don't set any of them to resident. Instead, I
update Ad-aware and Spybot once a week and do a scan - one at a time,
not concurrently.
Here is some general information:

Are you actually reading peoples responses?
What is mentioned above is partially true and partially false.
You want "run time" : 1 program protecting you against adaware, spyware,
viruses, trojans, worms.
You want "on demand" : as many programs protecting you against adaware,
spyware, viruses, trojans, worms.
"run time" means it is loaded as the computer boots up and it permanently
monitors email, USB sticks, floppy disks, CDROMs, DVDs, web traffic etc in
short any way some media can be introduced your PC.
You only want _ONE_ "real time" program becase two or more would slow your
PC down unbearably. Preferably that 1 program should be capable of detecting
_ALL_ types of malware mentioned.
"on demand" means that you can periodically fire a product to check your
computer for malware that might have slipped through the "run time" program.
When you were told "only have one as they could be interferring with
eachother", the "RUN TIME" was being referred to.
When you were told "install at least 3", the "ON DEMAND" was being referred
to.
For instance, on this PC, I have
"run time" : McAfees VirusScan
"on demand" : AdAware SE, SpyBot Search & Destroy, Microsoft AntiSpyware,
HiJackThis, CoolWebSearch
McAfees VirusScan is watching all media coming in.
The rest are run periodically every now and then.
Does that make sense?

Spyware and Adware programs should not fight with each other. Nor
should they bog down your computer. Not to say that will never happen, but
I haven't had any conflicts with the four that I use, and three of them have
real time, always on, protection.
You can safely have Spybot Search & Destroy, AdAware, MS AntiSpyware,
and Spyware Blaster as your four spyware applications without fear of any
problems. They don't really "fix different problems", in a permanent sense.
They all have the same goal of preventing the "same" problems. It's just
that they discover new problems at different times, and some may update
sooner than others, so as long as there are no conflicts, your best
protection is to have more than one.
Anti Virus programs have the same issue - they discover new threats and
update at different times. It would also be best to be able to run two or
three of them, but the chances of conflicts and resourse issues ate much
greater here.. Especially as different brands try to become an all in one
solution (virus, trojan, spyware, firewall, etc). The more things thay try
to protect you from all on one program, the greater chance of there being
conflicts if running more than one. But this is the goal of all the major
brands. Afterall, they would much rather have you buy their application,
than have you using multiple free programs.
Hope this has helped somewhat.
