I have been told to have at least 3 different spyare and adware programs on
my computer as they each clean different problems out. Today I am now told to
only use one as they fight with eachother and they will bog eachother down.
What is the correct solution to successfully protect against all of the
spyware & adware?

Buy some popular anti-spyware / anti-adware product (i.e. MS Antispyware)
and use it.

I saw only once that adware was removing it's competitors on client's
machine, so you should not rely on that.

Hi Jane !

The things you were told are true and false at the same time.

Well...this applies to all the security things:
Keep only 1 firewall ,only 1 antivirus software and 1 antispyware with real
time

Always update your antivirus and antispyware and make sure they are ON.

Please ,goto my site
http://free.hit.bg/fightmalware/homepage_en.htm

and visit the "Useful pages" and "Protect your PC" sections

There you'll find very useful information about all the security and a lot
about antispyware softwares.

Jane,

If you don't have them all running in the background, they won't bog
each other down, or fight with each other. Just take them off your
startup list, and run them manually, one at a time. Running them in
Safe Mode is the best way to make sure nothing else is running when
you scan. Anti-virus and Firewall should be running all the time,
unless you're running a scan.

Not all such programs contain a component which runs in the background.

I run Spybot, CounterSpy and WinPatrol, all of which have a process running
in the background to provide realtime protection and they do NOT interfere
with each other.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1

It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
