From one day to the next one I suddenly can't open a password-protected
Excel file anymore. After investigating this issue I found out that the
Excel file uses the encryption scheme "RC4, Microsoft Base Cryptographic
Provider v1.0". However for some strange reason this encryption scheme isn't
available any more in my Excel 2003. From all the encprytion schemes listed
at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/294414/en-us my Excel 2003 suddenly only
knows these anymore:

- XOR encrpytion
- Office 97/2000-compatible
- RC4, Microsoft Base DSS and Diffie-Hellman Cryptographic Provider
- RC4, Microsoft DH SChannel Cryptographic Provider
- RC4, Microsoft Enhanced DSS and Diffie-Hellman Cryptographic Provider

Another user on this laptop however has the full list of encryption schemes
available and can open the password-protected Excel file. Now how do I get
back the other encryption schemes?

If you were  Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
Problem has been solved. I use a credentials manager and changed the Windows
password there instead of using the control panel. While this worked it
apparently caused some problems with encryption schemes. I changed now the
Windows password again but this time in the control panel. Now all the
encryption schemes are back.
