Greetings to all,
I am in the process of creating a variety of Group Policies on a Windows
Server 2003 box for a domain and have inserted some custom settings into the
SCE (specifically, the MSS Settings from the Threats and Countermeasures
Guide available from:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/topics/Serversecurity/tcg/tcgch00.mspx
).
However, I wish to remove some settings from the SCE. I have tried to remove
the settings a variety of ways to no avail. I stumbled across this KB
Article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=214752; and followed
the removal instructions within. The article appears somewhat outdated (for
Win2k/xp), however, applying what I assume would be the Windows Server 2003
equivalent method:
1. Update %windir%\inf\sceregvl.inf and remove old SCE entries.
2. Run 'regsvr32 scecli.dll'
3. Delete %windir%\security\Database\secedit.sdb
4. Run 'gpupdate /force'
5. Run 'regsvr32 scecli.dll' ?
However, this failed to work as well. Can anyone provide some insight
concerning how to remove custom SCE entries added (and deleted) from
sceregvl.inf on Windows Server 2003. I have deleted the relevant entries from
sceregvl.inf and re-registered it however the old entry is still present in
the SCE.
Thanks in advance,
Ralish
