I would like to rename the User Administrator on my domain. I realize that
disabling would be a better choice however, for now that's what I want to do.
I have 2 DC's running 2003 server standard ed. They are running in 2000
native function mode. They've been up for some time and have apps like
Backup exec, exchange, symantec running. I know that a right-click/rename
will have some impact on these apps. Does anyone have any advice before I
open this can of worms???

You cannot disable it.
Unless you have services setup to use that particular username/password
combination - you should have no trouble.

Look in the list of accounts used by services on both DCs by running
services.msc. Then look in your memory asking whether you ever
entered the credentials for Administrator into some config interface,
such as is used with scheduled tasks.
If neither turns up uses of Administrator then your rename, while still
with a chance of having impact, is likely fairly safe.
