This BCArchive freeware folder encryption software looks like a third
candidate for the best freeware Windows application for FOLDER (not file)
encryption:
1. TrueCrypt (works on Windows or Linux, src included)
2. Cryptainer LE (freeware limited to 25 Mb)
3. BCArchive (billed as a beta program)
When I visited http://www.jetico.com/bcarchive.htm again I had to be
careful to select the freeware "BCArchive" out of the slew of "evaluation"
programs they were offering. That in and of itself isn't a bad thing; it
just always makes the hair on the back of my neck tingle.
After a few false starts, I found the real link for BCArchive 1.0 beta
freeware at:
http://www.jetico.com/bcarchive.exe
Like TrueCrypt, multiple algorithms are offered:
Blowfish, IDEA, Triple-DES, CAST5,
RSA, ElGamal, Diffie-Hellman,
SHA-1, MD5, RIPEMD-160, etc.
BCArchive uses your existing PGP keys which is a plus for those who use PGP
for file encryption. It's too late for me tonight so I'll let others help
test this out to see how BCArchive compares with TrueCrypt which seems to
be the leader in my book (after only a few minutes of testing though).
