Are you SURE SafeGuard PrivateCrypto is viable freeware?

When I tried to download SafeGuard PrivateCrypto just now, first I had to
disable my popup blockers just to get it to do anythnig; and then I was
confronted with a list of confusingly named options (which is the hallmark
of a bait-and-switch operation).

I was disappointed to read "Please note that the software offered for
download below is only a demo version". Worse, I was horrified when they
stated later on "This demo version does not provide genuine access
protection!".

What <insert expletive here> good is that?

Are you sure that this link points us to viable freeware for Windows folder
encryption? Or did I choose the wrong download option?

Can someone else try this and see if they get a viable working copy (with
"real" protection) from that SafeGuard PrivateCrypto link?

The version is intended for private use only. In commercial environments it
may only be used to decrypt documents. You can obtain the SafeGuard
PrivateCrypto version for commercial use in our online shop or from our

Firefox (with popup block activated) downloaded the file fine with popup
blocker activated.

You need to read the page again. The programs that are above SafeGuard
PrivateCrypto are demos. SafeGuard PrivateCrypto is under the heading
"Free security software download for private users"

You must be new around here ;-) I'm sure the software is viable and will
encrypt a folder into 1 file.

If you want Microsoft approved software then I suggest you do a search for
"Microsoft Private Folders" - nice software that was offered by Microsoft
until pressure from sys admins made them pull it.

It can also be found here:
