Hello

Your posting is less than fully descriptive.

What SQL Server ?? SQL 2k is way past service pack 2, but
SQL 2k5 is not there yet.

What is unable to connect ?? and just freezes but can connect
to remote SQL instances ?? Anything you try ?
If only Enterprise manager, did you attempt to define a new
connection to the SQL ?

Are the SQL services running ??

There are newsgroups specifically for SQL Server, to which
you perhaps should be posting.

I am using SQL Server 8.0 , on windows XP professional service pack2,

I had installed the hotfix two weeks back, after installing that
security update, I was not able to access my local server in the
Enterprise Manager. i.e under the server groups when i try and open the
local server icon the Enterprise manager wud freeze, both the services
1) SQL Server and 2) SQL Server Agent are running.

But when i register a new server through the enterprise manager, which
is a remote server , i am able to register it successfully and able to
access the database on the server.

I posted this query in the security forum since the SQL server behaving
this way after the install of the security fix,

After installing the fix this dll ssnetlib.dll was updated, i took a
backup of the old dll (before the installation of the fix) when i put
in the old dll, the enterprise manager works fine.

OK, so that is SQL 2K full, or is it an MSDE ?
I ask as MSDE has some tweaks to prevent connections, at least if
a specific reg key is just so.

I realize you posted here as this results from application of patch,
but posting to SQL newsgroup might be quickest way to find someone
that recognizes your exact issue.

Does the behavior differ if the XP firewall is off ?
Can you make a new connection to using (Local) ?? that is,
assuming that this is not a named instance.
