I have been verifying some software updates on a new software baseline.
Looking through some of the updates, such as msxml.dll, I have three versions
of msxml3 (8.20.xx, 8.70.xx, and 8.90.xx), four versions of msxml4 (4.10.xx,
40.20.9818/9839/9841), and three versions of msxml (5.xx, 8.0.6730/7002.xx).
These files are scattered in various regions of the disk.
Should these files be deleted, or updated to the latest version? Will
something break if they are all updated? Does having so many versions
present a security risk?
MS07-028 (CAPICOM) says that all CAPICOM.DLL files earlier than 2.1.0.2
should be updated to that version. Would that be good advice for all of
these old versions?
