Hi all,
I'm a sys admin and i've been told to monitor incoming and outgoing email
traffic. Is there a way to do so? Will I be able to read employee's emails?
is there a program or an option within windows or exchange?
Please advice
Thanks in advance

Based on the naivete of your question coming from someone who claims the
title of "sys admin", I have to express extreme condolences to your
employer. Or is this the normal state of affairs in the Microsoft "sys
admin" world?
Are you sure you're not a 12-year-old wannabe something? Such a question
ottabe avoided. (Okay, I admit the last part is an experimental joke around
"ought to be".)

If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options Depends on the mail server program that you administer.

Ask your company lawyer wether this is legal in your country first.

Yes

If you're a sysadmin, you should be able to find a way to do so. If
you're a sysadmin, however, you would already have known this...
sniffing SMTP is one of the first things you learn in Networking, after
all.

If you're only concerned about mail to and from the Internet, you
should monitor the mail traffic as it passes your firewall. Much easier
to do.

Assuming MS Exchange is involved...
GFI Mail Essentials
http://www.gfi.com/mes/mesfeatures.htm
"Mail monitoring
The mail monitoring feature enables you to keep a central store of the
email communications of a particular person or department. By
configuring the mail to be copied to an email address, all email can be
stored in an Exchange or Outlook store, making searching for email or
content easy."
and/or possibly...
GFI MailArchiver
http://www.gfi.com/mailarchiver/marfeatures.htm
"Easy enforcement of company email policies
Having a central store of email, enables you to easily search corporate
email for particular text and enforce any company email policies you may
have in place."
