Modify includes delete permissions while write does not. The link below
explains ntfs permissions nicely including advanced permissions. Word is a
bit different because it uses temporary files that need to be deleted before
the file can be saved/written. If creator owner is present with full control
permissions the owner of the file will have full control remissions to the
file even though his general group membership may have only write
permissions. This can help in allowing users to write files to a folder but
prevent other users [that are not owner] from deleting the file if the
general group permission is write. SysInternals has a free tool called
filemon that can help track down permission problems by viewing the log of
filemon for "access denied" errors. --- Steve
