Hi, had thought could use both Zone Alarm Suite, and MS Fire wall.

my MS firewall will not stay on when set to on..

have recently been hit by backdoor attacks.
Win32.Backdoor.Padodor

Notice have many entries for Remote Access under: Drivers, Hidden
(originally installed from verizon remote assistance)

any thoughts on vulnerablities appreciated. am considering re-install of
system.

once in, you're not sure you can get them out? thanks

- run only one software firewall at a time - keep it (and Windows itself)
patched for security problems.
- if high-speed Internet (cable modem, DSL, etc) --> get yourself behind
some sort of NAT device (Cable/DSL router.)
- make sure your antivirus software stays up to date.
- make sure you have decent antispyware protection.
- if your antivirus cleaned your infection (it should have - it also should
have prevented it) now - turn off your system restore - reboot - turn back
on your system restore.

My reply is mixed with your words:

Using more than one firewall/more than one antivirus will not make you more
secure but will create your compatiablity problems .Never use more than one.

This can be caused either by other firewall blocking WF to prevent conflicts
or as you mention below , by a computer virus/spyware

Although reinstalling Windows with FULL format will be the onliest that
guarantees you 100% success and clean environment after being hit malware ,
you can try the following instruction in my site to check for and clean :
http://pandaman.my.contact.bg

If this doesn't help you or if you feel uncomfortable with the situation ,
you can reinstall your Windows , here is a brief description how to do it
http://pandaman.my.contact.bg/install_Windows.htm

Good luck !
