I hope it's ok to double post as I posted in other forums as well
I am using Windows XP SP2, I have IE7 installed, and am having a really
serious issue with my browser. I can use the internet with no problem, but
as
soon as I try to access any web page that refers to adware, spyware,
antivirus, or hijackers, the browser page closes instantly. If I open those
pages in a new window, only that window shuts down, not my whole browser.
I am at a loss, as I cannot read into what is causing this. I am hoping as
a
last straw, that someone here knows something about this. I run NAV 2007,
and Windows Defender. Also, I have installed easy cleaner, spybot S&D, and
Ad aware (They found no problems). Now I am unable to even open web pages
regarding these issues to download anything further. Oh I also reset all
the IE7 settings, and run with no add-ins etc etc... no luck with anything.

What are the website URLs ? Are you using Site Advisor ? Site Advisor
may restrict you opening a malicious website - and also Internet
Explorer may close down instantly on a malicious content website to
prevent installation in severe cases. Are you using Restricted Sites
utilities like spywareblaster or ie-ads which may be restricting
access to malicious content websites.

What happens when you use a search engine for the keywords and then
click the link to go to the website ? Are you able to type in the
keywords in a search engine like Google for instance ?

There are two threats - a virus or spyware - that in cases will
attempt to prevent seeking help over Explorer to download removal
software. It may be a coupling with a keylogger recording typed Urls
(website addresses starting with http). With your scans by Norton AV ,
I would think you do not have a virus problem. Some viruses can even
prevent entry to the Registry for removal. The antispyware products
you are using have some of the worst ratings for protection in the
industry - if you are not aware of that. Try some free antispyware
scans like Trend Micro and Webroot to see results - if you are
infected with spyware. Also you might want to try A-Squared trojan
remover which is a free program to scan for and remove trojans and
other malware that may be the problem.

If you need to get to a paticular website you could try brute force by
using the "cache this website" at a search engine like Google. Use the
domain name like "good product . com" for the search word and then at
results showing it - click the "show cache view of this website" which
should at least display the snapshot of contents of the website and
you may also be able to then link to it. But of course you need an
apparent fix or removal.
