Hi,
I have a VPN connection set up using Internet Explorer-Tools-Internet
Options-Connections.
When at home, I first connect to the internet thro an ADSL Router. Am
able to access internet.
Now I connect to the VPN. I can access remote LAN without any probs.
Can RDC/VNC/Explore any of the IP addresses in Remote LAN.
However, I cannot access the Internet as long as the VPN is on.

How can I access both the internet and the Remote LAN simultaneously?
TIA
Kar

Depends on the DNS/settings of the VPN network you are connecting to as well
as the settings of your local VPN setup.

What happens when you try to PING some address that pings fine before you
are VPN connected.

Start button --> RUN -->

cmd /k ping www.google.com

--> Click OK.

Start button --> RUN -->

cmd /k pathping www.google.com

--> Click OK.

Thanks Stanley for the response. I think my Remote Lan prohibits me
from connecting to the internet thro it. Unless I terminal onto a
remote Machine and then browse from there.
I can ping all addresses within the range of my Remote Lan but cannot
ping or nslookup a external Name/IP. Expected behavior I suppose.

What I want is that my computer should connect to Remote over the VPN,
and to Internet over my local ADSL. How do I do this? Is this a
limitation of PPTP? Will I need to get IPSEC VPN?
TIA

1) You may find the Windows Server -> Networking newsgroup more expert in
this matter.
2) Not very familiar with MS VPN client, but there used to be a check box
titled 'Use Remote Gateway' - you do not want to use the remote gateway, as
the LAN you are connected to by VPN may be configured to deny you access to
the Internet.
