Hello,
I have a folder on our shared drive that I want to password protect. I've
currently got it set up as read only, but management wants users to have
first enter a password before being able to view the file list. How can I
do this? It is a sub-folder about 3 levels down from the root directory.
Thanks.

Hi, Mark.
Which operating system(s) are you using? Is the shared folder on a server or
workstation?

If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options Shared folder is on server running Server 2000. Client PCs are mainly XP,
but some are 2000.

I know this isn't answering your question, but why not use file
permissions to restrict access to the file?
If management are concerned about access, why not add auditing to the
file(s) concerned? At least that way, there will be an audit trail of
who accessed the file and when?
Management like that sort of thing. :-)

If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options Is there a reason that you want to use a password? If you just want to limit
access to certain users it can be done with folder permissions:
