I have yet another virus can anyone tell me how to prevent them or how to get
rid of it.
Norton 2005 doesn't get rid of it.
Last time I had one i had to format my H.D.

So, what OTHER anti-virus products have you tried? Many AV vendors provide
a freebie scan using their web site (typically it downloads an ActiveX
control to run as the local client after downloading the signatures from the
web site). McAfee, TrendMicro, and others provide online free scanners.
They can help identify a pest but they won't remove it (but you'll have an
idea of which one to buy). If it is malware (spyware) instead of a virus or
trojan, you might get false positives since their detection isn't as robust
yet for surity. Even the anti-trojan vendors, like TrojanHunter and TDS-3,
provide a trial copy that will detect if you have a trojan (they may be
better at finding trojans than are AV programs that include trojan
detection). I think a-squared provides a personal freebie version that will
detect and eradicate trojans.

You can use the following Multi AV Scanning Tool.

You can download the needed files and scan in Normal Mode or Safe Mode or you
can create a
DOS Boot Disk or a DOS Boot Disk with NTFS4DOS and then use the supplied DOS
batch files to
scan outside the Windows OS.

When you get the to menu of the utility, hit the letter 'H' (or 'h' to load the
PDF Help
File for further information.

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go
through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal
Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the
PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you
can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded
the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode
[F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run
in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive
PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

Did Norton give you the name of it? If it did you can search it's website
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/ or do a Google search for the name of
the malware. Often there are specialized tools or instructions on how to
remove it. Second opinions via other malware detection and removal programs
are also worth a try and one of my favorites is the free Sysclean from Trend
Micro that also has the advantage of not needed to be installed. You just
down load it and the latest pattern file to a common folder to run from.

http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp --- Sysclean

Trojans are somewhat harder to prevent as often you install them
unknowingly. Of course always keep your virus definitions up to date which
should be done daily and can be automated with Norton. Then make sure that
you configure it to scan all email and downloads and run in auto protect
mode. It often helps to scan booted into Safe Mode if you are having
problems removing a malware. If possible do not browse the internet while
logged on as an account that is also a local administrator and be very
careful what you say yes to. When in doubt close the popup window by hitting
the red X in the upper right hand corner or if that does not work open Task
Manager and kill Internet Explorer in the programs tab or kill the process
tree for iexplore.exe in processes. Never set your Internet Explorer
security or privacy settings below medium and if you are running XP consider
upgrading to Service Pack 2 if you have not already. --- Steve
