I really hope for a solution for the following problem. We are running
cashier terminals on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. For security reasons
they have set a standard windows screensaver where the user has to
enter the password after 10 minutes to unlock - just the standard
screensaver with the standard username/password dialog.

Now to the problem. If a user forgets to logoff the screensaver turns
on after 10 minutes and the desktop is locked. Only the currently
logged on user or an administrator can unlock the screensaver.

There is no other way then turning off the PC and restart the machine
for other users to use it. As booting always takes a long time this is
not acceptable for cashier terminals. I need the possibility for other
domain members to force logoff of a currently logged on user. Its no
problem that all open files of the currently logged on user are lost
this way.

Short summary of the problem:

- Screensaver is running
- Currently attached user should be able to unlock the desktop
- Other users should be able to force the logoff of the user

Is there any way to get a solution for this problem?

kind regards
Michael

There is no workaround to allowing another user other than administrator to
unlock the computer. What you could do is to look into a logoff screen
saver. Search Google for "logoff screen saver" or try winexit.scr from the
Resource Kit. Winexit.scr would need to be configured to close open
applications and you my need to do a registry mod to get it to work for non
administrators. The links below explain more. --- Steve
