I had to do a clean install of my XP home edition recently ( 3 months ago )
and registered it in my own name! I have been having major problems in the
past month resulting to my pc switching of randomly ( sometimes will stay on
for a day without switching off and then other days every half hour or
whateva ). Today I went to check My computer, properties and now see that my
pc is now registered in another name ( clueless now ) I was using blueyonder
firewall but decided to remove and just used the built in XP 1. Since
finding the new name I have installed Free Zone Alarm and scared to let any
programe in at all now. Is it posible that I have been hacked and if so, how
can I change the registry information back to my own name? Any help would be
really appreciated! Ty in advance to anyone who can help me!

None of this sounds like evidence of hacking.

Use antivirus if you aren't already. There are free antivirus programs out
there, such as http://free.grisoft.com

Sylviaa - In cases like yours I always suggest that the poster take the
machine to a professional computer repair shop (or person) for
diagnosis, repair/reinstall (if warranted), and correct setup. This
will not be your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA. This is not meant to
disparage your computer skills or to make you incur expense; I make the
suggestion because it is the most practical and efficient course of
action. It will be very difficult for people reading your descriptions
in a newsgroup to give you an accurate diagnosis/cure because we can't
see the computer. Someone who can see the computer and who knows what
to look for will quickly be able to determine the source of your
problems.

Certainly you can change the registered owner back to yourself, but this
is just a bandage that doesn't cure the disease if the machine has been
compromised and/or the machine isn't properly secured to prevent future
compromises.

Ty very much for your advice and the link. Managed to change the name no
probs!
Must admit that my pc is 4 years old and is most likely needing upgraded.
Just dont understand how the registration was changed in the 1st place!
Annoys me to think that some1 has hacked it...if that's whats happened!
Going to get myself to college after crimbo and get a little more knowledge
of computing :o). Only know what i have taught myself ( very little
considering how they work ) ty again for your reply.... very much
appreciated.
