I do not know where to begin. I will attempt the Reader's Digest version. I
have a new computer Dell Dimension2400- I have had it seven months-it has
worked correctly about 10% of the time. I have constant email/messenger/isp
program download issues. Today I re-installed my isp software AGAIN, this was
a re-install after a supposed clean Un-install--You guessed it, it still is
not working properly and only took 45 mins. to install-normally a 3-4 hr.
event. When I did sign on the MSN butterfly appeared on the task bar then
reappeared with an X through the icon, an idication that I was not connected,
however my homepage was loading and soon the butterfly was back clear of the
X. I can hear programs opening then almost immediately closing on numerous
programs. Including my anti-virus program. I cannot seem to sync. Outlook
Express and MSN mail. When downloading the MSN dial-up 9 for my Windows XP
software-MSN connection accelerator would not load and told me it is for
ANOTHER version of Windows-It is designed, according to the system
requirements from MSN, for Windows XP my software. Well, you get the jist-
Does anyone have any idea what in the world I can do to run my programs and
computer successfully. MSN messenger does not work-I think it may actually be
blocking my contacts as all are listed off line ALL the time. Tried settings
and they seem to be OK. Anti-virus up to date, ditto anti-spyware. HELP

There is not a prayer of there being anything we can do from here by writing
an "email message" with something like that. I'd be lucky to straighten it
out if I was there in person for that matter,...it'd probably take half a
day. Call an experienced person to come over there and straighten it out or
take it into a shop. Try to get enough information from them during the
process to avoid the situation in the future.

This doesn't sound like a security problem so posting here isn't really the
best place to get advice. There's a chance it might not be a problem with
your computer but with your wiring that gets you to the Internet. I could
make some guesses but would need to know whether you're using DSL, Cable
Internet, dialup, etc. Calling your ISP might give some help as well,
depending.

It shouldn't take 45 minutes to install on a new computer. You may want to
use the system restore CDs that hopefully came with your Dell computer.
Downloading and running Hijack This! which you can find in www.google.com on
a different computer, then posting the resulting log to the Hijack This
support discussion site on that web page may be a good idea.
