have a Hotmail email account which I use with MSN EXPLORER as my mail
handler. I have an application written with Access 2007. I have downloaded
the software for viewing and using .snp formatted files from MSN website.
I created several reports in Access 2007 and want to email them to several
people in .snp format. My Browser, or Email Server I cannot tell which or
why "Blocks" .snp formatted files. I cannot find a swithch or Microsoft
doesn't seem to know why their software considers their software "UNSAFE".
Does anyone know how to make this work. It works if you are not using
Hotmail or MSN Webmail. it works with Earthlink to many various email
servers by Not Microsoft's go figure.

It would seem that a .snp is effecively a .cab (or archive file) and could
therefore contain any type of content. Thus if the email program is to
maintain any kind of protection against executables it would have to block
this.

It would also appear that image data in the file is in metafile format, and
a very serious vulnerability was found some time back in this format.
Admittedly most computers should now be patched against that exploit,
nevertheless it's a reason for caution.

I don't know specifically if Hotmail restricts the snp file format, but OL07
by default blocks Access files(mda, mdb, mde). It's possible that an snp
file due to similarity is being interpreted in the blocked file category. It
would also seem appropriate that Hotmail would not deviate too far from OL
in its file blocking method.

If not already attempted.
Rename the file with a different extension(e.g. xyz), attach the file to an
email and inform the intended recipient to detach the file from their email
client and rename with the original extension.
