I would be grateful if someone could advise how I could allow access to our
domain from an external site.

We are on SBS 2003 Std with NAT / Basic Firewall, but are unable to even
ping the server public address from the remote site.

Can anyone advise how we can allow access to the SBS from the external site.

Thanks

Philip,
You would probably be best off by asking the SBS gurus, in
newsgroup microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs to which
I have cross-posted this.

I wondered why I didn't see the original post until I saw that the reply was
cross posted - good one Roger.

What type of remote access do you want to grant? email, browse network, RDC?

For any of these you will (as you already know) need to be able to connect
to the public ip address of the server. If you can't ping it then:

1. Are you pinging by name or by ip? If its by name then does it resolve to
the correct ip address?

2. Assuming the ip address is correct, if you just get ping timedout then
are pings enabled at your router? Most routers come with ping ("icmp echo
request" I think) disabled.

Once you know you can ping, it should just be a case of identifying what
type of access you want to grant and opening the appropriate ports on your
router.

Hope this helps.
