An excellent training resource is available called Is Spyware Eating Your
Lunch? It is a 95 pg manual on either CD or print written by a field tech who
deals with this stuff everyday. It pulls together a lot of good resources,
programs, etc and also shows how to successfully remove pests manually when
the scanners don't get them. The thing I really like is that it gives risk
ratings to the different manual removal processes. It also covers
preventative stuf like disaster recovery plans and general pest prevention. A
good resource to have kicking around

Or just come to this newsgroup and get the same answers for free!
(It leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, when a poster's first
post, in a newsgroup, is an advertisement.)

And the reason for neglecting to mention the following taken from that web
page would be?
Price: $8.95
Shipping: $3.00
For $11.95, I can get 4 lunches at Subway (6" cold-cut w/all the fixin's),
then come here and other security-oriented groups for free. Plus I don't
have to read horror stories and how to recover from boob users. "Is Spyware
Eating Your Lunch"? Apparently this book will eat 4 of them.
"techniques to cleaning even the toughest Internet pests"
Since it's a book (regardless of the media on which it is distributed), it's
old news.
"Learn what tools are available"
Oh, c'mon. Even boobs can use Google, find forums, visit newsgroups, or
read magazines.
"how to manually remove the pests that the scanners miss"
If the user that needs this book cannot find the pest with a scanner, and
they cannot follow the removal instructions available at several sites, they
won't know they have a pest and they've already exhibited the fact that they
cannot follow removal instructions.
"We normally charge $129 per student to teach the material here in a "hands
on" classroom setting. We are now offering the teaching materials only at a
reduced rate."
Oh, goody, I get a "book" filled with useless PowerPoint slides. Note that
"teaching materials only" is italicized. Also, the "only" should have been
bolded along with disguising its intention (its correct position is BEFORE
"the teaching materials").
