I have many DELL servers that I support running Windows2003 Server Standard
Edition. Recently I started receiving reports of a "Windows was unable to
complete the format" error message when using Windows Explorer to format a
floppy disk in the server disk drive.

Replacing the disk drives did not solve the problem, new diskettes did not
help and the only thing that has changed on these servers lately is MS
security hotfixes. On another internet forum I was told this was caused by a
recent hotfix, Does anyone know of a problem with a hotfix that might cause
problems formatting floppies?

If we format from a CMD prompt, sometimes it works sometimes not. If we
format the same 3.5" HD diskette on an XP workstation, when we try to use the
diskette back on the server, we get a similar message from the disaster
recovery portion of ARCserve.

suggestions?

Don't format floppy disks in servers? ; D

Just kidding. But support calls to Microsoft are free if caused by a
hotfix. Unless someone else here knows specifically which hotfix.
