I have read the other postings on this problem, and tried the suggestion of
downloading the current Flash Player.

My computer will still not install this update.

I downloaded the update and tried to install it manually (another suggestion
from the forums) - it says the update doesn't match my version of flash
player.

Is anyone else having further problems? Any suggestions for me?

seems pretty clear that one either still have the version distributed by
Microsoft as part of the original XP install (and needs this update) or
one has updated the Flash Player to a more recent version, in which
case one should update from www.adobe.com

So am I understanding you properly? If I downloaded the new flash-player, I
don't NEED the update? I was assuming the new flash-player made it possible
to install the update.

If this is the case, how can I stop if from attempting to install every time
I do a windows update?

Thanks for your help!

As I understand things, MS only provides patch of the version
of Flash Play it distributed, with is a v6 version IIRC.
If you ever download and installed a more recent then that
replaced the one MS distributed, and updates for it must be
obtained from Adobe. If you have a newer but are getting
prompted to install this patch, then either something did not
go correctly in the install of the version obtained from Adobe
(or Macromedia at the time), or something is wrong in the
Windows Update / Microsoft Update detection on your machine.

At any rate, just go to the Adobe site and get the latest greatest
and then see what happens afterwards relative to this patch.
