I am trying to set permissions for a file on a Shared folder on a Windows 2003
Standard Server.

I have de-selected the option to Allow inheritable permissions from the parent
to propogate to this object and removed the Users group.

I have added an individual user with full control, but when I open up the
file on his PC it says "Read Only".

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Sandy

Does the account have a grant of Change in the share-level
permissions (Permissions button in properties of the share
being used to access the storage).

So, if I understand you right, you have a share established and the folder's
NTFS permissions no longer have an entry for Users, but do have an entry for
the specific user with full control? Check the permissions for the share
itself. You probably want this to have an entry for Authenticated Users to
have Full Control. Your NTFS permissions may be correct, but share
permissions could be limiting access. Then again, the wisdom on doing it
this way may have changed in recent years.

NTFS permissions are extremely complex, besides which they don't always do
what you 'think' they ought to, so you can't make any assumptions. Therefore
I suggest that for straightforward requirements, you stick to using share
permissions only.
