I tried to connect to Event Viewer on remote server through Computer
Management but received message: "Unable to connect to computer. The error
Access denied"
I am Domain admin. It happened on a few servers.
Any ideas what can cause it?

Thank you in advance!

There are a couple of probable things to check. First make sure that the
domain admins group is in the local administrators account on the servers.
It is there by default but can be removed. Run the support tool netdiag on
the server to check for problems with network connectivity, dns, dc
discovery, trust/secure channel/computer account, etc. Make sure that the
account you are using is not in the guests group on the server. I know that
sounds strange but some have reported that as a problem in the past. Verify
that the remote registry service is enabled on the server. If the server has
ipsec policy or Windows Firewall enabled the proper ports may not be open.
One way to tell for Windows Firewall is to enable logging of dropped packets
and then look in the firewall log for dropped traffic from your computer at
the time that you attempted to access it. Try accessing Computer Management
on the server via Remote Desktop or TS Administration mode to see if that
works. --- Steve

I am having exactly the same issue. I have 2 servers only, server1 is a DC
and server2 is a domain member. From server1 I open Computer Management, and
then try to change to manage server2. It opens, but when I try to open Event
Viewer I get the same Access Denied message. I cannot see any information on
the other machine, keep getting access denied.

But if I go to server2 console, open Computer Management and try to switch
to manage server1, it opens fine, I can see everything. So it is only broken
in one direction. Very odd.

I checked all the things you suggested: Logged in as domain admin, netdiag
is all success, groups are set up correctly, no one in Guest or anything.
Windows Firewall is not enabled on either server. RDP works just fine.

Any clues? Thanks in advance!
