I am running Vista Ultimate with Defender preinstalled. When attempting to
bring all security up to date, Defender suggested that I update
"definitions". When I try to do this I get the error message; "The program
can't check for definition updates", error code: 0x80240029.
Can anyone comment on this problem and a resolution if available?

Try turning off Windows Update, exit, turn Windows Update on, check for
updates.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it still comes up with the same
error code as before.

It appears that your suggesstion did work after a force quit and restart.
The definitions have updated and everything is working fine. I guess I just
didn't allow the process to finish.
Thanks again.

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender support
and comments. This is not one of them.
