Every day for the last week I have got an automatic notification that an
update is available for Defender. I have downloaded and installed 4 times &
each time have got the message "Update successful". When I run the programmes
'check for update' I get back "no updates available", when I go to MS Update
site it shows no updates needed - but the next day auto update message
re-appears in the notification area.
Details shown in programme Help/ About are :-
Version 1.1.1347.0
Engine 1.1.1560.0
Def. 1.14.1650.11
Although not a major problem it is getting very annoying.
Has anybody any answers to how to stop this happening?

Uninstall Defender, it is useless anyway. I had the same problem -- ended
up going with lava-soft's Ad-ware SE and SpyBot Search & Destroy since both
are free and both found and fixed problems Defender didn't.

Don't know what is going on with Microsoft these days, everyday I find
myself just shaking my head at the "new" products/tools that just either
don't work/install or have some very obvious problems/bugs. I suspect
they're outsourcing their QA to "offshore" companies and the results of
cheap QA are showing up in just about all Microsoft's products.

As part of the beta testing, daily Defender updates have been "pushed"
from 1 Aug-06 through 14 Aug-06, Jenny. This was announced in the beta
newsgroups at the end of Jul-06.

Current Definition set is 1.14.1652.4 (16 Aug-06).

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender Beta2
support and comments. This is not one of them.
