As an intermediate user I have a question on accessing my computer. Is there
a log I can check somewhere on my pc which will show when it was switched on,
accessed etc? I know my internet history was cleared by someone else but I
can't confirm when it was used. Any ideas?

IF NT/XP yes, look for Event Viewer inside compmgmt.msc (type this into a Run
box) There are three main logs, for system, security and apps.

Under any NT-class OS (NT4, W2K, XP, Vista), inspect the content of the
Event Viewer (Run: eventvwr.exe).
