We have 3 computers on our home network. 2 computers (XpPro & XpHome) have
developed the following problem on Windows loadup. The computers boot, we
see the default WINDOWS XP loading screen, followed by a blank screen with a
rectangular box. This box has symbols in it menu bar and another coded
symbol in the upper left of the box in the subject area, followed by an OK
button at the bottom. If we click the X to close the program nothing
happens, if we click the OK button, windows proceedsto the default Welcome
screen, then loads to the desktop.

What is this box, how do we get of rid of it, and why did it happen on the 2
computers?

Any help and info would help, as this is very aggravating at each boot up.

I'd start by looking in msconfig to see what's set up to load at startup.

Do you have good, updated antivirus software installed, and have you scanned
for malware/spyware using good tools like the latest versions of AdAware,
Spybot, MS Defender Beta? You probably have some unwanted guests on your
computers. I don't mean hackers/crackers, just crap that was installed
without your knowlege or consent.

Use of autoruns from www.sysinternals.com may likely be helpful also
