Cannot install any antivirus software Guptan 03-15-2006

If you were  Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
I've Windows XP profession system currently without any anti-virus
protection. I suspect there is some kind virus after verifying DoS to
microsoft, symantec etc. Winlogon.exe is always consuming much of the
system resources.

When I tried to install Norton antivirus, I got directory access
permission denied error. Then I checked Program Files\Common
Files\Symantec Shared it was marked as Read Only, even if I remove
read-only flag within seconds it was set back to Read Only (I have
admin previllages in this system)

Similar errors (directory access permission denied) were met with
Kaspersky installation, AVG installation. And I and stuck without
having a anti-viurs soultion.

Can somebody help me to solve this problem?

It is very probable that your computer is infected. It is very common
that you will not be able to install antivirus software on an
already-infected computer. Go through the preparatory steps listed
here:

Then run either Sysclean or David Lipman's Multi-AV:

Then install a full-featured av, update its definitions, and do a
thorough scan in Safe Mode. Then go through the rest of the steps for
removing non-viral malware at the first link I gave you.

It is crucial that you take that machine off the Internet and disconnect
from any lan. Get all tools and updates from a different, known-clean
machine with an Internet connection and cd burner (or have a usb
thumbdrive with enough capacity to transfer the files). If the
procedures described at the links above seem too complex (and there is
no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to
a professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA).

The BlackMal worm is known to attack the AV applications themselves. I
adition to Malke's suggestions which you should follow, you may also want to
go to Symantec.com and download the BlackMal removal tool. There are other
removal tools as well, you might want to get a few of the "popular" ones and
run them since at this point we don't actually know what you might be
infected with.

You have no longer control over your system. The only way to get back to
a clean system is to do a complete system restore from your (clean)
backups or from the Windows installation cd's.
Everything else will not give you the guarantee that the maliscious code
on your system hasn't already installed other backdoors, not known to you.

Hello !
Unfortunately ,nowadays there are many malicious softwares that can disable
or fully destroy antivirus softwares.Mr.Phillip is right about
Blackmail/Kamasutra/Nyxem worm however it is one of the hunders examples...(I
mean there are many others).

*Most* antiviruses even in 2006 products doesn't have self prevention or
even if they have , it is poor and not enough. Only Panda Software and
Kaspersky Labs (2006) products have such technologies which are quite
effenctive.

However , in your case the tools cannot be installed because there is
memory-resident malware that is automatically killing your protection.

Clean your PC before installing antivirus software.
