Windows Defender generated an error. Tried to remove Defender from control
panel, would not uninstall. When trying to reinstall another error generated
" you must remove installed version first". Started PC in safe mode and tried
removing Windows Defender entries from registry. Some entries would not
remove. Restarted in normal mode. Problem still exists. PLEASE HELP as
Microsoft Antispyware runs out on the 31st of July 2006.

You need to detect 'how' installation checks for the presence of W.D. -
usually this is done by instantiating some COM object. So, unregistering
product's COM objects helps in this situation - I had such expirience with
ImageMagic installation...

Go to installation folder, find all dlls and invoke regsvr32 -u pathtodll

Then try to run installation once again. Install it, and then deinstall.

Why are you attempting to uninstall Defender/MWAS?

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender Beta2
support and comments. This is not one of them.
